Ilia Beauty Products Create Underpainting Makeup Trend in Facial Cosmetics

The underpainting technique with Ilia’s multi-purpose formulas, delivers a sculpted look that enhances natural beauty, according to Ilia’s Executive Director of Global Education Sam Michalska.

Here’s the beauty technique in Michalska’s words:

Sculpt

Choose the complexion stick three shades deeper than your own skin tone, keeping your same undertone. Apply the complexion stick in the area you typically  contour; usually these areas would be underneath the cheek bones, the jaw line, the sides of the nose, and the forehead right at the hairline. Apply a bit more than you normally would.

Highlight

Choose the complexion stick two shades lighter than your skin tone, apply this at the high points of the face or any feature you would like to bring forward, such as the bridge of the nose, and the top of the cheek bones. To achieve the maximum radiance, stipple your highlighter on for more color payoff. Do not blend it out fully before applying the top layer of foundation, this will allow the highlighter to look a bit bolder. 

‘Rosy Up’ 

Apply the multistick in between the highlight and the contour, working your way to the apples of the cheek. Blend the products in with Ilia’s Complexion Brush. 

Blend

Lastly, using the Ilia Complexion Brush, lightly dab Super Serum Skin Tint over all the blended products for a glowy, sculpted look.

Add Depth

Once the skin tint is applied, stipple the cream bronzer over the area where the darker complexion stick and highlighter were applied for a “lit from within” glow.
